Learning to Love From Lesbians

24 03 2010

I found 2 stories in the news this week about lesbians.  The first is about a judge ruling about an 18 year old woman who wanted to take her girlfriend to the prom. He said that it was a violation of her rights to cancel the prom.  While he isn’t going to re-instate the prom (mainly due to a competing private prom), it is still a major victory.  In the USAToday:

A federal judge ruled Tuesday that the Itawamba County, Miss., school board violated the rights of a lesbian student by canceling the prom when the student challenged a ban on same-sex dates, but the judge stopped short of ordering the district to reinstate the April 2 prom.U.S. District Court Judge Glen Davidson said he denied the injunction request because a private prom parents are planning will serve the same purpose as the school prom and because “requiring defendants to step back into a sponsorship role at this late date would only confuse and confound the community on the issue.”

I was disturbed when I read initially about this story. Fortunately the judge ruled correctly in this case, and hopefully this precedent will prevent things like this from happening in the future.

The second story is about learning to love you women by listening to lesbians.  This is in AskMen.com in their article “Top 10 Lesbian Sex Secrets”. I do like the idea that we can learn from lesbians about how to make love to women. Makes sense.  Some of my Favorites are”

Don’t just thrust away

The term “screwing” is actually ancient. It comes from the Taoist technique of literally screwing with your hips during intercourse. Using a horizontal figure-eight motion (the infinity symbol), this technique can help you reach all of those elusive vaginal hot spots during sex, which is usually tough to do. You may also want to try to alternate between short, shallow thrusts — highly stimulating for you both — and long deep thrusts, which fill her up while calming you down, so you can last longer. The Taoists used to write about the perfect sexual encounter as 30 minutes of female arousal followed by 1,000 loving thrusts. Now there’s a workout goal!

Play with toys and sexual enhancements

This blends in beautifully with the previous tip, as many women have difficulty climaxing without the use of a toy, or have even stronger orgasms with them. Toys today are for everyone — men, women and for use together. If she gets to control the speed and pressure, she’ll consider them a natural part of lovemaking. If you use a cock ring with a vibrating bullet, have her on top of you so she can move around until the bullet hits her clitoris where she enjoys it.

Compliment her on her genitalia

For most women, the thought of anyone looking at us “down there” is loaded with hesitation and fear. Even if you’ve been together for a long time, women are always concerned with how we look, smell and taste. If you want to release the wild woman inside her, fill her with confidence about her body. Tell her often how beautiful she is, and how glorious she smells and tastes.

Ok, that last one was a bit awkwardly written, at least the title was. LOL.

I hope you found the above interesting and/or useful.

New Sport for the Olympics?

26 02 2010

Well I wouldn’t get my hopes up too much but there appears to be a move on to get pole dancing into the Olympics. I think it is about time.

Personally, there isn’t a much better way to spend a Friday night for me than to spend it watching a graceful woman spin around the pole, climbing up and down it with a sense of grace. I might actually tune into the show to watch it if they were to add this.

In one story:

The Winter Olympics may be getting dismal local ratings, but if the pleas of poll dancers across the world to have their “sport” recognized by the Olympics are heeded, we’ve got a feeling ratings would shoot through the roof.
“After a great deal of feedback from the pole dance community, many of us have decided that it’s about time pole fitness is recognized as a competitive sport, and what better way for recognition than to be part of the 2012 Olympics held in London,” British pole dancer KT Coates writes in an email to the Associated Press.

And in another:

For Japan’s Mai Sato, watching all those gold medals being handed out in Vancouver is a bittersweet experience.

Sato knows the demands of being the best. In her world, blisters are the rule, bruises a way of life. And the training — five hours a day, five days a week.

The world champion in her sport, Sato is as athletic, dedicated and competitive as the Olympians representing their nations. And she thinks it’s high time her discipline, too, got some real recognition.

Let us all cheer for this sport, eh?

BlackBeat 2010 is Back

12 02 2010

I wish I could make it to BlackBeat this year. It is really where my heart is. Still it looks to be fabulous even without me being there. If you can go, I would really suggest that you make the effort.

Ok, I don’t know how I missed this site before (perhaps because while I like Leather, and I hang sometimes with Leather, I am definitely not Leather). I ran across this fantastic site the other day while in FetLife. This site is Leatherati. What is Leatherati? In their own words:

Leatherati launched in 2009 after a long (and productive!) gestation in the minds of Loren Berthelsen and Alex Lindsay. Sensing a gaping hole in the informatosphere for things leathery, but not adult-rated, the duo leveraged their long-standing involvement in the leather community to bring you the most comprehensive leather content site available today. Leatherati explores our unique lifestyle of contests and titleholders, travel and events, dining and drinking, entertainment and shopping and of course, news and opinion.

There was an article talking about the importance of fund raising and Leather contests. It gave the history and asked if maybe there was too much emphasis on how much money a person can raise when it may be better done elsewhere and at the cost of other excellent attributes.

If you want to learn a bit about where we come from (admittedly there is more to the story than leather, but it is a big part of it) then I would suggest you do what I plan on doing and spend a few days at the site reading their posts. Truly excellent content.

Leather Working 101: Basic Tools Pt. 3

Ok, I have showed you how to cut, sew and put holes in leather, this time we are going to see some of the basic tools you need to add things to leather.

Rivets, Grommets and Conchos

When you have your leather cut, you need to do something with it.  Rivets are used to hold two pieces of leather together, or to hold some sort of cosmetic item in the leather. They come in a wide variety of shapes and appearances. You will need a mallet (which I discussed in pt. 2) and a rivet setter. This is used to strike the rivets and and set them in place. Basically you are causing a small piece of metal to deform lock into place with a metal holder.

Do not use them when safety requires a strong hold to bind two pieces of leather together. I find they are more for appearance sake. Instead, either sew (which I showed the tools needed in part 1) or use Chicago screws.

Grommets are used to reinforce a hole in leather. Use them when you want to run a rope or lace through a piece of leather where wear may affect it. Or use it for appearance sake too. You will need to use a grommet setter as well as your trusty mallet.

Conchos are very decorative items that are set using either screws or like a rivet. They are almost always to improve the appearance of the item, though they can hold the leather together as well.

More on BDSM and Feminism

30 12 2009

Very early this year (way back in January), I did a quick post on BDSM and Feminism, linking to an interesting article on Feminist Philosophers. Today, I will point you to an article on SF appeal. The Sexual Manifesto: Can BDSM be Feminist? is an excellent defense of BDSM and makes some very good points about how the Lifestyle is not anti-Feminist. Read the rest of this entry »

A Great Place for Novices to Start

23 12 2009

One of my favorite places to shop for toys is JT’s Stockroom. I have found that they have a diverse selection of stock and seem to never have shoddy goods. I found out today that they own Kinklab. This where they focus on providing novices an easy entry into the world of BDSM. It is more of a brand of toys than a retailer, so look for it where you shop for your sex toys and feel comfortable that they are good stuff.

Kinklab is the beginner bondage toy line of world-renowned manufacturer, retailer, and distributor Stockroom, Inc. Created in response to a growing mainstream interest in and demand for fetish product, the line draws on Stockroom’s twenty-year history serving the needs of both wholesale and retail kink customers of all experience levels. Though they maintain The Stockroom’s reputation for premium quality leather and fine workmanship, Kinklab products are nevertheless value-priced to remain accessible to the curious beginner.

The Kinklab brand is carefully curated to include only items safe and intuitive to use for those who have little to no experience with BDSM; and all products are presented with a fresh, clean-cut aesthetic to attract a more mainstream customer who is adventurous but who doesn’t identify with a more traditional, black leather-and-chains bondage aesthetic or lifestyle. The elegantly packaged products are presented in ways that take the guesswork out of shopping for unfamiliar gear – compatible items are sold in kits, and packaging incorporates visuals and text to make items as self-explanatory as possible.

You can read about their most recent product announcement (a lube applicator) here.

Happy Holidays!
