The Curious Case of the Kinky Dr. Beaton

21 07 2008

Ok, so Mr. Beaton isn’t a Dr.  Instead he is a disturbed psychologist who abused his patients trust, as well as making the kinky community look bad. I found it via the West, and Australian news site.

A former Fremantle psychologist who used bondage and discipline role-playing to treat a 22-year-old bulimic woman has been ordered to see a psychiatrist after arguing he should not face disciplinary proceedings because he had post traumatic stress disorder since being cleared of sexually assaulting the client.

Bruce Alistair Beaton was acquitted last year of unlawful and indecent assault, and aggravated sexual penetration of the young woman, who also claimed the psychologist whipped her with a homemade cat-o’-nine-tails while treating her between January and March 2005.

During Mr Beaton’s highly publicised trial, the District Court was shown hidden camera recordings in which the then-64-year-old called the woman his “submissive”, describing her as “delicious” and telling her he was going to “enjoy” her and “have a taste” of her. The woman, who wore a dog collar in the footage, was told to “kneel” before reading an oath pledging her body and mind to her “master”.

It is very sad that this reenforces the steriotypes that people have of us in the Lifestyle.  What do you all think?  Let me know in the comments.

Jamaica Does BDSM

9 06 2008

I found an article today from a Jamaican news site discussing BDSM. I find the perspective interesting (the author calls BDSM “Kinky sex”, which I would argue with. I think that BDSM is one type of kinky sex, there are others).

The term BDSM describes the activities between consenting partners that contain sadistic and masochistic elements, which involve the inflicting or receipt of pain to derive pleasure. It includes bondage and discipline (B&D), dominance and submission (D&S) and sadism and masochism (S&M).

The term ‘vanilla’ refers to normative (‘non-kinky’) sex and relationships, the vanilla world being mainstream society outside of the BDSM subculture. The term comes from vanilla ice cream, which is considered the ‘default’ flavour.

Check out the whole article here. Seems that other countries are doing better discussing BDSM than we do here in the Atates.

Another Sad Death Due to Unsafe BDSM Practices

7 04 2008

I have always tried to espouse safety when partaking S&M behavior.  No matter how much pleasure we receive from an act, we must stop before we harm the ones we love or ourselves. We have too may people depending upon ourselves.

This brings us to the latest tale of a father who died from sadomasochistic behaviors.

A father-of-three who had a fetish for bondage and sado-masochism, died after inhaling chloroform through a biological warfare mask, an inquest heard today.

Christopher Harris from Newport, South Wales, was found dead in the bedroom of his home on the city’s Cardiff Road with the Soviet Union military issue mask still attached on October 28 last year.

Ok, here is the truth. Never play by yourself. This is the main way people die doing what it is that we do. If your a dominant NEVER LEAVE YOUR SUB ALONE during a scene.  That is all you have to remember.
