Operation: Do Something

dosomething

A fellow Dominant I respect came up with an idea, and I thought I would join in. His words are better than anything I could write, so here they are:

Ok I ‘m pitching this one out to everyone that considers themselves a part of the Community. I’ve been looking at various posts, blogs and opinions and most of it is at the core complaining. Now venting can be theraputic but in the end sometimes a situation calls for actions.

Now I am not talking about anything grand actions on anyone’s part but what if each one of us did something, just something that uplifts or empowers the community. It can be attending a munch, actually being there to listen to someone, give someone pure advice, support a dungeon, reach out to one new person, let go of a grudge, anything pure of heart. Don’t do it to be seen, just do it because there was a need for it to be done. Do something and not take credit for it. Do something nice anonymously for someone. Just invest some pure goodwill.

I’m calling this Operation: Do Something, and if you believe in what I’m saying please use the graphic above and spread the word.

This community needs you, time to make it yours.

Ok, now you know what to do. Do it.

Reflections on a Conference.

I thought I would reflect upon the conference I attended last night.  I suppose I am a tad bit jaded by voice chats these days. It turns out that the conference was a typing only event.  I thought the author was fine, but the host was using evaluation software, and everyone had to keep putting in text to keep in the room.  I found that distracting as was the use of a wide variety of fonts and colors.  I have to say that all of that made it very distracting for some one with ADD. I will say that the author they interviewed was interesting, but after an hour or so of the chat room.  They are supposed to be posing the chat logs, so maybe I will scan that later and be able to weed out the extraneous parts.

Now I have a goal, find some online chat software that focuses on voice, and that isn’t too annoying to use. If you have some suggestions, please post them in the comments.

The BDSM Resource Center

I am going to be attending an online conference tonight at the BDSM Resource Center. Tonights focus is on the matter of protocols, a particular fetish of mine. They have a lot of resources for those interested in the lifestyle and links to books and movies that you might find interesting.  I am looking forward to the evenings events, and I promise to let you know what I thought of it.

Disturbing Events in England

So there is a new bill that has been proposed in England that will criminalize a lot of BDSM related material.

The proposed criminal justice and immigration bill contains a disturbing element within it: if passed and made into law, it will then be “an offence for a person to be in possession of an extreme pornographic image”. It will be illegal to have in your possession certain pictures deemed “offensive” or “obscene” by the government. No, this is not 1984, surprisingly. According to this proposed bill, if you have in your possession hardcore BDSM sexual imagery you can be criminalised and potentially imprisoned for it.

So, let’s say you’re a man who gets off on being tied up and spanked. One day your girlfriend strips you naked, binds you and your genitalia tightly with some rope, hits you with a paddle, and perhaps you both have an orgasm or two. She also photographs you in situ. Let’s then say that the next day you decide to upload those photos to a blog, so you can both look at them. Your girlfriend likes the pictures so much she decides she’s going to download a couple to her computer so that she has permanent offline access to them and can enjoy them at her own leisure.

Guess what? If this law gets passed, you both would have just broken it, and risked a large fine, if not imprisonment, even though you were willing, mutually consensual participants, and your photos were for your own personal use. Both owning and downloading the pictures would be a criminal offence….

Well if your in England, I would recommend that you ask your parliament minister why they are wasting their time on this bill.

Beyond Vanillia

Beyond Vanillia is a BDSM event happening in Dallas, Texas. It celebrates its 18th anniversary this year and has a lot planned this year, or so I am told.  The Leather Quilt will be there, along with the International Puppy/Trainer Conference.  Also the National Leather Association International is holding their one of their meetings there as well.  They even have some live entertainment. The list of presenters are not up yet, but if you are going to be in the area during the 26-28th of September, I would suggest you check it out.
