Corsets

If you have read this blog for a while, you may notice that I am a fan of corsets. I find all sorts of things as I browse the web. I ran across this article in the fiber2fashion website discussing the history and modern practice of cosettry.  Check it out and enjoy.

Corsetry has been around for hundreds of years, but it generally fell out of fashion in the Western world during the 1920s when corsets were replaced by girdles. Since that time, corsets have been used less as underwear and more as costumes, lingerie, and even outerwear.

Just as the purpose of corsetry has changed over the years, so too has the construction. They were originally made from thick material such as leather that had channels to hold “stays.” Stays were made from rigid material such as whalebone or steel. Today’s corsets are usually not as rigid and may be made from softer fabrics. Stays are typically made of plastic, although it is still possible to find some made from steel.

Let me know what you think about corsets in the comments

Waterboarding, Waterboarding Everywhere, and not a Drop to Drink

Here is a copy of the infamous waterboarding video.  Not a reccomended practice for a scene, but it can be inspiring for interrogation scenes.

Petition

The first time I heard about a petition in BDSM was during my many talks with Sir about this lifestyle.  Sir likes protocals and etiquette.  So do i as it offers me a sense of order and direction.  One of things Sir mentioned to me was that when the time came and I have decided that being his was what I wanted I would have to petition him to be in his service.  I was like “petition” what in the world is that.

A petition in BDSM is something that the submissive provides to the dominant.  It should detail the reason the submissive wants to be with the dominant, what the submissives offers in terms of service to the dominant and your goals in the relationship. This would be like a prenuptial agreement in vanilla terms.

Sir went to a demonstration given by Kim Attica at Capex this weekend and she gave a link to a site that she uses called iron rose library.  I found some of the items at the library to be very interesting.  Doing a search on my other favorite site wikipedia bought up some information as well.

So that being said a petition is not something that anyone should write lightly.  It should be something well thought out.  You are making a written commitment to someone and this should be taken just as serious as a verbal comittment.

Kim Attica: Wow

I attended Capex this weekend. It was their 100th meeting and there were a lot of emails about this person, Kim Attica, who was presenting. I had never heard of her, I have been in the lifestyle for over a dozen years, but I can hardly say I know everyone. Turns out that she is Laura Antoniou’s owner (Laura is the author of the excellent and highly recommended Marketplace series).

Turns out that Kim is the founder of the Iron Rose and a well known dominant from the North Eastern US. She is an incredibly dynamic speaker and knows a whole lot about the history of the lifestyle.  I heartily recommend that if you get the chance to attend one of her presentations, go.

Reactance Pt2.

Okay…part 2

So from the comment on my previous post i see my words were not as clear to others as they were to me.  my apologies.  i sometimes write with the understanding that everyone knows what i am talking about…LOL

Anyway,  I have found this theory of reactance to be very interesting.   The link will take you to a wiki page that delves further into reactance from a psychological standpoint.

To explain a bit more than my first post…Psychological reactance occurs in response to threats to perceived behavioral freedoms [1] [2].  The fear of loss of further freedoms can spark this arousal and motivate reestablishing the threatened freedom. Because this motivational state is a result of the perceived reduction of one’s freedom of action, it is considered a counterforce, and thus is called “psychological reactance.”

There are four main points to psychological reactance: 1.  perceived freedom, 2. threat to freedom, 3. reactance, and 4. restoration of freedom (my diet scenario clarified, hopefully).

Hopefully this clarifies my thinking a bit more.
