Things to Mark on Your Calendar

I noted a few conventions coming up, and I thought I would post about them so you keep them on your radar. One I am planning on going to, the other two are pretty good too.

The first one started yesterday, and lasts through Sunday. DomCon – Atlanta, is a professional and Lifestyle domination convention. It has a interesting combination of classes for everyone and specific presentations for professionals. If you’re already in the area, a visit here could be very productive. I know a lot of my friends in Atlanta will be there. A one day pass is only $20 at the door. That is pretty reasonable in my book.

In October 2009, DomCon will be celebrating it’s 6 Year Anniversary in Atlanta, and will continue in it’s effort to bring the BDSM, Fetish and Leather Communities together to celebrate our commonality and respect our differences, to learn from each other, and to enjoy the company of each other for an unforgettable weekend.

Further down the road, is the Leather Leadership Conference. For those of you not familiar with it, the LLC is:

The Leather Leadership Conference (LLC, Inc.) is an organization dedicated to strengthening the SM/Leather/Fetish community by providing the stepping stones of learning and knowledge to assist in the development of the leadership skills of community members. Our goal is to aid in the growth and success of organizations and community groups through the development of these skills by providing access to leadership information and topics. By strengthening the leaders in our community we hope to facilitate a greater sense of connection between and within community groups.

Each year they have the convention in a different host city. For 2010 (doesn’t that have a nice SciFi ring to it?) they will have the convention in Detroit. So, if you’re a leader or want to be one in the Leather community, set aside April 9-11 and find a ticket to Detroit. Right now, they are looking for presenters.

Call for Presenters for the 14th Leather Leadership Conference

The Leather Leadership Conference XIV, Great Lakes/Ontario is pleased to announce a Call For Presenters.

The Leather Leadership Conference XIV, Great Lakes/Ontario is scheduled for April 9 – 11, 2010 in Detroit, Michigan at the Metropolitan Hotel Located at the Metropolitan Detroit Airport (http://www.leatherleadership.org/loc/llc14/ ).

Those interested in presenting at LLC XIV should submit a relevant biography, a description of the class(es) they are interested in presenting, and a completed application. This should include the targeted audience and the objectives for the class. Submitting a photo that can be used on the website or in program materials is also preferred. The application can be found at http://www.leatherleadership.org/loc/llc14/pdf/presentersapplication.pdf. These should be emailed to programming@leatherleadership.org and must be received no later than January 15, 2010.

The theme of LLC XIV is “The Journey Continues,” and as such, the focus is on fewer introductory and novice classes and more classes designed for the more advanced audience. Bear in mind that classes should focus on leadership, community development and/or personal development as it relates to those topics.

The proposed tracks for the 14th Annual Leather Leadership Conference are:

  • General Leadership and Management
  • Reaching Out to Other Communities
  • Preserving and Moving Ahead

General Leadership and Management would include personal development and skill improvement such as improving public speaking skills or effective marketing strategies.

Reaching Out to Other Communities would include working with various groups within the community as well as networking with non-kink-centered groups and might include law enforcement outreach or venue negotiation.

Preserving and Moving Ahead would include topics such as conflict resolution within communities, effective ways to preserve local history and peaceful co-existence with other groups in a community.

Indicate which track you feel your class falls under and how it fits within those guidelines. Please bear in mind these are simply suggestions and LLC XIV welcomes and encourages other topics that fit within the general guideline

I should really get off my butt and submit my Dom 2.0 presentation for this event. I think it would fit in well with the General Leadership and Management track.

Finally, we have the SouthEast Leather Fest (SELF). We go back to Atlanta for this one.

We’re getting ready to celebrate the 15th year of SELF (June 10-13, 2010) in Atlanta! In addition to 60+ classes, join us for five contests, four play parties, three class intensives, two shows … and one hell of a time!
